Local Mom Wants Leash Law After 3yr Old Son Attacked by Dogs

Amanda Brinkley was terrified. As she walked around the Oglesby City Park with her mom she looked over to check on her three-year-old son Caiden to see two dogs attacking him at the end of the slide.

“He was on the ground just trying to get up, and he couldn’t,” Amanda said as tears rolled down her eyes. “A lot of things went through my mind. The were still attacking him when I got there.”

On Tuesday evening, Amanda says after her son came down the slide, he went to grab his shoes and out of no where two corgi type, medium sized dogs started attacking him. “When ever I picked him up there was blood pouring everywhere, pouring out of his leg,” she said.

Terrified, she called 911 and an ambulance came to pick them up. Despite the scary scene of seeing her son attacked, and all the blood … the bite marks were not deep and were just superficial.

Coryell County Sheriff deputies came to investigate the attack and found the owner of the dogs lived across the street. Sheriff Johnny Burks says the owner didn’t know how the two dogs got out of the backyard fence.

Because the owner could not prove the dogs were vaccinated, Burks says the owner willingly surrendered the bigger dog to be euthanized and tested for rabies. If the it comes back negative, Burks says the owner will have two options – have the remaining five dogs vaccinated or surrender them.
