Dog Attack in St. Francis

SICANGU LAKOTA OYATE — At approximately 8:00 a.m. LakotaVoice witnessed two black dogs attacking a woman walking on the east side of Main Street, BIA Highway 13. While the woman was walking north toward Valandras II, the two dogs began jumping and snapping at her. She grabbed her jacket and kept the dogs away by swinging it at them repeatedly.

A passing van pulled over to pick up the woman. She stated that she was attacked, seemed shaken and left.

LakotaVoice contacted the RST police as both dogs appear to live directly across the street from Valandras II.

Dispatcher James Iron Shell answered the call. He said that he would not send out an officer. He explained that unless the woman was bitten and reported it nothing could be done. He also stated that there is no code that addresses the situation, that…
