Two dogs are quarantined after one allegedly bit a child on the rear-end Monday afternoon.
The dogs were captured by Valley Oak SPCA Monday afternoon after calls came into police that two pit bull dogs were on the loose in northwest Visalia. Shortly after, calls came in that one of the dogs bit a child.
The dogs were taken to Valley Oak SPCA and will be held at least 10 days for a rabies quarantine, as required by state law. If the owner of the dogs doesn’t object, the dogs will likely be euthanized. They have six days to appeal and a hearing will be held. Very few owners object to their dogs being put to sleep after a biting incident.
Shelter staff says the dog that bit the child likely did so because the child got too close to a litter of 10 puppies, which were also taken to the shelter.
“She was absolutely vicious. She has 10 puppies, I wouldn’t go near her,” said Lydia House, the SPCA’s shelter manager.
