Wendy Bowen, of Weybridge, had taken her dog Jake to Grooming Gorgeous in Thames Street last Thursday (June 19) when he was set on by a Staffordshire bull terrier tied to an A-board outside Budgens in Avenue Parade.
Mrs Bowen said: “He was sitting quite still, then he just lunged at Jake. I pulled him away, but he just kept coming.
“I just went into shock. I didn’t know if I had been bitten. There was a man who pushed me away to separate the dogs. He was so brave.”
She said Jake, a Lhasa-poo, was in a great deal of pain and had gouge marks in his back and stomach.
“The people that lived there helped us piece together more information when we went back to put up flyers on Saturday. The florist controls the CCTV camera so we have seen the footage.” She thanked Sheila and Shirley at Skinners newsagents for coming to her aid, adding: “Thank you especially to the man who stepped in to separate the dogs.”
The Staffie owner left a phone number for the Bowen family, although Mrs Bowen found it was incorrect and asked if anybody knows the person.
“I was in shock so wasn’t really aware of him,” she said. “He left his number for me but unfortunately it was wrong. I’m told he was very upset”
