A Bay of Plenty couple whose dogs severely mauled a seven-year-old Japanese girl visiting their home are set to be considered for diversion.
Charlotte Boyt, 31, and Gareth Clive Boyt, 35, of Galatea, are due back in Rotorua District Court on Wednesday jointly charged with owning the dogs which caused serious injury to Sakurako Uehara on March 13.
The couple appeared before a registrar in May and were remanded to reappear on Wednesday, when they will formally considered for diversion.
The dogs were destroyed immediately after the attack which left Sakurako with such severe injuries from the 100-plus bites she received that it will take years of reconstructive surgery to repair her wounds.
Under the diversion scheme, non-recidivist offenders involved with low level offending can agree to fulfil certain conditions in exchange for which the charges are dropped and a conviction is not recorded.
