Denver officer shoots at pit bull during arrest of home invasion suspects, police say – 7NEWS Denver TheDenverChannel.com

Denver police are investigating after they say an officer fired his gun at a dog during the arrest of two home invasion suspects.

The shooting occurred at about 2 p.m. at the scene of a home invasion robbery at 15th and Wabash streets, according to the Denver Police Department.

Police were called to the house after a homeowner reported that a man and a woman had broken in. After officers arrived, they were in the process of arresting the pair when they said a pit bull escaped from its enclosure down the street and approached an officer in a threatening manner.

The officer then pulled his gun and fired one shot at the dog who was “poised to attack him,” missing it, and then fell back while he was retreating from the dog.

Police said the officers suffered a minor injury from the fall. The dog was not hit.

The dog was taken into custody by animal control and the two suspects were taken to be booked.
