Family of boy mauled by dogs plans to sue city | KRQE

The parents of a 9-year-old mauled by a group of rescue dogs in June say they’re planning to sue the city of Roswell.

More than a month has passed since three pitbull mixes escaped from Doggy Saviors, a Roswell rescue group, and attacked Colby Prince, 9, while he was watering his horses on his own property.

The boy’s wounds are gone, but his memory of that day is not.

“He has nightmares of pitbulls attacking him through the window,” said Colby’s mom Keisha Prince. “He’s a wreck.”

Keisha describes her son as a fun-loving boy who once adored animals.

“He can’t get around dogs. He’s terrified of even the smallest poodle and he wont step foot outside the front yard,” she said.

Last week the family’s attorney, Doug Jones Witt, filed a tort-claim against the City of Roswell saying animal control was negligent.

The family claims at least one of the dogs that attacked Colby had been surrendered to animal control by its owners because of its dangerous and vicious nature.

“A couple of those dogs had previously attacked in the instance of one dog, a horse and its owner,” said Jones Witt.

Jones Witt claims animal control knew the dog was violent, but released it to Doggy Saviors anyways.

“The City of Roswell, who initially took these dogs in for extermination, allowed these dogs with the knowledge they were vicious to be adopted,” said Jones Witt.

The Princes say they plan on suing so no other kids have to suffer.

“I want to do what I can to prevent another little baby from being hurt or even killed,” said Keisha Prince.

The city and animal control aren’t commenting about the case, but animal control did tell KRQE News 13 any dogs with vicious tendencies are immediately put down.

The Prince’s attorney says the family is also planning to sue the rescue group.
