Boy rushed to hospital after dog attack in Apopka | Local News – WESH Home

A 9-year-old boy was taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital after a dog attacked and bit him in the head on Ryan Avenue in Apopka.

Take a look at which Florida counties have the most animal bites per 100,000 population where treatment for rabies was recommended.

Neighbors say the boy went to a neighbor’s home to see if his friend could come outside and play, and that’s when the lab mix charged.

The boy, named Jayden, received a puncture wound to the back of his head, and his ear and arm both had bite marks.

A neighbor was able to pull the dog off.

“The nurses and all are around him and doing what they have to do to get ready to stitch it up,” said Jayden’s grandmother, Betty Floyd.

Animal control officers say they have responded to this house before but for a different dog.

Floyd said her dog was killed by the neighbor’s pit bull in that incident.

“His teeth was sunk into him. It wasn’t no letting go,” she said.

Animal control officers confiscated the dog, but could not say if the owner would face charges.

Jayden was able to go home Thursday night, but he will need plastic surgery to repair his ear.
