Two dogs running loose attacked officers in Isle of Wight County, the Sheriff’s Office says.

Deputies say they were called to Pearl Court in Carrollton on Friday, July 25 and tried to catch the two Pitbulls. One went the officer, but he was able to get into his patrol car and call for help, according to a press release.

The second dog attacked the two Animal Control officers who arrived and one of them opened fire, hitting the dog in the shoulder.

The owner got the dogs, one of which was taken to the vet for treatment, authorities stated.

The officers were treated for minor injuries.

An investigation into the incident continues.
