A Fredericton woman’s leisurely walk with her dog, turned into a tragic incident yesterday morning–resulting in two dead pets. Sheila LeBlanc was out with her eight-year-old miniature poodle, Buddy, when they encountered two dogs off-leash in their own yard. The bigger dog, a Rottweiler, suddenly came after them and attacked Buddy, seriosly injuring him. A neighbour driving by tried to help, but suffered bites and cuts to his hands.
The dog’s owner heard the commotion and came to the rescue, but it was too late. Buddy’s injuries were so serious he had to be put down. The rottweiler was also euthanized as a result of the incident. The owner paid both bills and has been fined $50 by the city. LeBlanc says it’s a sad situation for everyone involved…but an important lesson about keeping dogs leashed at all times.
