A Lakewood man was attacked by two English bulldogs on Tuesday and has spent most of the week recovering at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

A Lakewood Police official called the dog mauling one of the worst he’s ever seen.

Police say the two dogs belong to the victim’s tenant. The dogs had chased him off the property and into a neighbor’s yard  and attacked.

Katherine Holmes was in her back yard on Tuesday when she heard a scream for help.

“I drove down a very long driveway and the whole time saw dogs on top of this man viciously attacking him.”

“He was on the ground and had been there for quite a while as these dogs took chunks out of him,” Holmes said. “I had to use everything that was at my disposal. I used my child’s car seat and full water bottles and they still didn’t get off of him.”

Holmes lives several houses down and had never met the man who was attacked prior to the minute she stepped into help.

“He’s going to need a lot of prayers. Recovering from this will not be easy,”  he said.

The victim is expected to survive.

The dogs involved in the incident have been impounded and if they are officially determined to be “dangerous” then they will be put down.
