2 dogs kill child, 6, at Fanning Springs, Levy officials say | Ocala.com

Two dogs attacked and killed a 6-year-old child early Thursday morning at Fanning Springs, Levy County officials say.

Few details are immediately available but authorities say that the Levy County 911 Communications Center received a call at 8:15 a.m. of a child attacked by two pit bulls at the park, according to the Levy County Department of Public Safety report.

First responders from multiple agencies arrived but the child was deceased. No other injuries were reported.

A victim’s advocate from the Levy County Sheriff’s Office was on scene to assist the family, and the Dixie County chaplain and Marion County Debriefing Team were called in to assist the first responders and dispatchers involved.

Units from the Fanning Springs Fire Department, LCDPS, Medic 2 and Battalion 1, LCSO, and Levy County Animal Control responded to the scene.

This is a developing story and more information will be provided when it is released by authorities.
