TWO defenseless terriers have been mauled to death by pit bulls that smashed through the fence between their backyards.
Adrian Hutchinson’s third Jack Russell barely survived the ferocious attack last week, which is being investigated by Hobsons Bay City Council rangers.
Police were also called to Mr Hutchinson’s house when the owners of the pit bulls clashed with Mr Hutchinson and a ranger, allegedly trying to delete evidence captured on the ranger’s phone.
Mr Hutchinson said the pit bulls, which lived next door to his Altona Meadows home, were “ticking time bombs”.
“These dogs, we don’t need them in society. All they want to do is kill,” the 40-year-old plumber said.
“Obviously I’m upset, but just think, imagine if it was someone’s kids rather than my dogs.”
Jack Russell pup Skimpy and his grandmother, Manny, were both dead when Mr Hutchinson got home from work last Thursday.
Stevie, Skimpy’s mother, barely survived and spent three nights in a vet emergency hospital, costing Mr Hutchinson more than $2000 in vet bills.
He said the pit bulls had torn off three palings of his backyard fence to get in.
The pit bulls have not been seized by the council.
