Greer Police say a six-year old boy suffered a broken arm in three places when a pit bull attacked him after he got off a school bus.
The dog was owned by a woman who says she bought the animal off Craigslist and had no documentation for the pet.
The incident happened around 4:30 p.m. Thursday on Harvey Road. The child got off the bus and headed home, walking between the dog owner’s home and a neighbor’s house. That’s when the child was attacked.
In addition to the broken arm in three places, the child suffered puncture wounds to his arm and leg according to the report.
Greer Police were sent to the neighborhood to check on the pit bull’s vaccination history at the request of the emergency room staff at Greer Memorial Hospital.
The woman who owns the pit bull told police she bought the dog in May from Craigslist. She had not taken the animal to a veterinarian and had no paperwork on the pet.
The owner surrendered the dog to police to be quarantined at the Greer City Kennel because she didn’t have any documentation.
The child was taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital for emergency surgery at the pediatrics center.
GPD reports the case will be forwarded to a Greer Animal Control officer for a follow-up.
