Dog attacks LaQuinta Inn housekeeper who opened door to room |

A housekeeper at the La Quinta Inn was recovering Monday night after she says a dog in a guest room attacked her on Sunday.

The victim was traumatized. She says the room was supposed to empty when the attack happened two hours after check-out time.

Some of the pictures of Ramona Smith-Tucker’s injuries that appear in the video clip below may be difficult for some viewers.

She says she knocked on the door like normal, announced she was from housekeeping and heard nothing. So she opened the door. That’s when the dog, a pit bull, lunged at her and instantly ripped open a wound in her leg. She needed a dozen stitches.

She tells the story with high emotion, “And I was like please help me! I said please stop! Please stop! Please help me!”

She says the dog’s owner returned within seconds. “He was like telling the dog ‘what are you doing,’ and when the dog seen the dude and stuff he went towards the dude but then he turned back around and he tried to jump up at my breasts and stuff.”

The hotel does allow pets, but it does not allow vicious dogs. Greenwood Village police say the dog was placed into quarantine.

The out-of-state owner has ten days to produce proof of vaccinations and show no other violations. He could still be cited or charged as the investigation continues.

We tried to talk to the hotel manager Monday, but were referred to the general manager who was off for the holiday.

An employee who didn’t want to go on camera or be identified says they had seen the dog several times and it always seemed gentle.

But Ramona’s experience was frightening, “I’m definitely going to have to go thru a psychiatrist.”
