A 40-year-old woman was attacked by a pit bull Saturday afternoon while walking with her baby on Gaynell Drive in Houma, Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Jerry Larpenter said.
The woman told police she was pushing her 6-month-old son in a stroller when the dog bit her pants leg. When deputies went to the dog’s owner’s home, the dog attacked a deputy, who shot it, Larpenter said.
Larpenter said the dog underwent surgery at Tri-Parish Animal Hospital before being hospitalized in Metairie.
The dog’s owner, Angela Vanburen, 28, 601 Gaynell Drive, was charged with violating the leash law, Larpenter said.
